Stonewall, Plus 40
By Jim Flood - The Local - Fort Green | Clinton Hill
Tuesday, June 30, 2009
This past Sunday marked the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, often identified as the beginning of the modern gay rights movement.
To gain some perspective on how the lives of gay people have changed since that time, The Local interviewed two longtime Clinton Hill residents about their own experiences. In the video above, Barbara Abrams, 64, and Bob McCoy, 77, reflect on Stonewall as a milestone and share their thoughts on where gay people stand today.
Ms. Abrams, who retired a decade ago from a career in banking, and Mr. McCoy, who served more than 20 years in the United States Navy, are frequent visitors to Griot Circle, an organization in downtown Brooklyn that serves lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) senior citizens.
